On November 20, 2018, Bishop Douglas Deshotel celebrated a Solemn Mass at St. Peter Catholic Church, where the City of Gueydan was consecrated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. It was concelebrated by Parish Priest, Fr. Corey Campeaux and Fr. David Rozas from Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Church Point.
Among the attendees were the Gueydan Police Department, the Fire Department and employees of the Town of Gueydan and their wives. Michael Courville, the Sheriff of Vermilion Parish attended along with six of his deputies representing his whole department. State Senator Robert Hensgens participated and was included as a lector. There were five Mayors who attended and represented the various towns in the parish. The newly elected Mayor Jude Reese attended with newly elected Councilmen and Councilwoman and newly elected Chief of Police Shawn Theriot.
General Intercessions were recited by Grand Knight Randy Primeaux, Principal of Gueydan High School Brandy Broussard, Sheriff Deputy Mary Mouton, Parishioner and Student Rebecca Lepretre, Granddaughter of Mayor Kaylin Theriot, Principal of Jesse Owens Elementary Anita Freeland Dupuis, Police Juror Leon Broussard and James Elliott, with the Mission for the Love of God Worldwide.
After the renewal of the baptismal vows, Bishop Deshotel proceded to read the act of consecration of the Town of Gueydan to the Two Hearts, followed by Mayor Chris P. Theriot who also surrendered the Town of Gueydan to the love and protection of Almighty God through the intercession of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Finally all atendees consecrated themselves and their families to God.
The Town of Gueydan is the first town in Louisiana to be consecrated to the Sacred and Immaculate Hearts of Jesus and Mary. We thank all who made this possible!
