The Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Matiguas, celebrated the feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe with the Holy Mass that the Msgr. Rolando Jose presided. At the entrance of the city, the Bishop blessed the relic image of Our Lady of Guadalupe that was donated by the Mission For The Love of God Worldwide". Then Msgr. Alvarez and the parish priest Fr. Victor Marquez, alongside the local residents, walked thru the streets of the city in procession, blessing the homes and praying for the sick. The homes of the Catholic families located in the streets where the procession took place, placed and altar and flags of the Church with the chants of the "Guadalupana". Children, young people, adults and the elderly dressed as indians to demonstrate their love and devotion to the "Morenita" of Tepeyac. During the Eucharistic Celebration Msgr. Rolando administered the sacrament of Confirmation and made the renewal of the extraordinary ministers of Communion. During his homily, he said that: "the family, and particularly the woman, has to defend life. Hence the defense of life necessarily goes through the protection of women and their dignity. Maleness is a cultural disvalue that women themselves must transform, respecting and exalting their femininity, their genius, their creativity and their ingenuity".The Parish of St. Mary of Guadalupe in Matagalpa also ended its celebrations in honor of the Empress of America, Our Lady of Guadalupe, with the Holy Mass that Msgr. Alvarez celebrated with the parish priest Fr. Francisco Reyes and the Franciscan Friars of the Renovation on December 12th. During the homily, the bishop said: "The Blessed Virgin, as the bearer of the Son of God and Mother of the Word Incarnate, is the first to evangelize. This is perfectly illustrated by Her visit to Her cousin St. Elizabeth. In the most correct biblical tradition and inculturating the Gospel, Pius X called Her "Heavenly Patroness of Latin America"; Pius XII proclaimed Her "Empress of the Americas"; Blessed John Paul II acknowledged Her as "Teacher of the Gospel of Jesus Christ" and Pope Benedict XVI, likewise in the marian tradition of the pontificate, affirmed that from Her hands and heart, springs the New Evangelization for our continent".At the end he led the 1,500 attendees in the consecration prayers to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.
