Fr. Joseph Kiran’s Personal Testimony about the Blessed Virgin Mary in Chavapadu, Amaravathi Parish, IndiaAbout ChavapaduChavapadu is a small Village/hamlet in Amaravathi Mandal in Guntur District of Andhra Pradesh State, India. It is under Endroy Panchayath. It belongs to Andhra region . It is located 28 KM towards North from District head quarters of Guntur. 8 KM from Amaravathi and 261 KM from State capital HyderabadLife style of the People and my Personal testimonyThe majority of the Chavapadu people were daily workers and some of them are farmers, the financial background of the people is very poor. There is a primary school and around 100 of them study there. Since they do not have the church they used to use the school for the Holy Eucharist and for their prayers. When we look into the realities of their lives, they were politically divided into two groups. They had always quarrels and fights between the two groups. It was in the year 2009 there was a big conflict between the two groups. They were just getting ready for the fight. Groups of women were carrying sharp stones to the terrace to hit the people from above and men were preparing the knives, sticks, iron rods and other harmful things. It was around 11:30 PM when I had received a call from the catechist saying that the Prisoner’s were getting ready to fight, "please come fast”. I knew before that it was very dangerous to enter into that village at that moment, I immediately called the Sub-inspector and explained the situation but he told me that for God sake I should not enter into that village, "it is most dangerous", he continued by saying, "let them fight and die, tomorrow we can go and see the situation there". At that moment my heart was not accepting that and I wanted to go and do something. I asked my assistant Parish priest to accompany me, he just refused. I asked some of the boarding boys to accompany me and again I got a negative response. I asked the Good Shepherd and Augustinian sisters whether they can send some of their workers to accompany me and they responded negatively. I did not know what to do. I had decided to go to the Church to pray for the people not to fight and kill themselves. I was standing near the Statue of the Blessed Virgin Mary and asking Mother to intercede for me and I was facing towards the Blessed Sacrament and praying; Suddenly I could feel that my inner voice was saying to me: " why are you waiting here? Go and do something there, you can do something." To be frank I was scared and nervous, I did not have the courage to go there because I was new there and I heard from many people that the situation of the village was always most dangerous. I was trying to resist my inner voice but I could not, it was much stronger than my resistance. I did not have a second thought then and immediately I took a small statue of Mother Mary, the Crucifix and a Rosary in my hand and I took the parish vehicle and entered into that village with lot of fear. When I reached there the situation was very bad, people are just getting ready to fight. I was courageous enough with God’s given strength and I began to speak with one group explaining further the consequences of the conflict. I made them calm and went to the other group and told them the same thing as I had spoken to the first group then I invited both groups together and said the following:Dear friends, if both groups fight now and kill each other and injure many, who will come and console you all, if someone dies, who will come and pay that and the medical bills to those who were injured. I think No politician will come and give you help, no other people will come and support you, why are you all destroying your relations and wasting your energiesInstead of doing this utter nonsense try to utilize your energies on good works, at least you can bear some good fruits. When I was explaining all these things to the people suddenly two jeeps of Police had come there because Sub- Inspector came to know that I had gone to the village; it was around 5 AM when the people had seen the Police they tried to run away but I told them that not a single person should move from there then I went to the police and explained to them the situation and asked them to go back and I promised them that we would come to the station and meet… after sometime they went away. Next day I had selected 12 of the leaders and the elders of the Village and taken their signatures and wrote an agreement letter in the presence of Circle inspector and sub inspector saying that if anything goes wrong, these twelve will be responsible and they will be taken to the task. They were given lots of instructions by the police and in the evening we had organised a thanksgiving Mass for all the people of that village. To my surprise, all of them had taken an active participation. After Holy Communion all the twelve elders had come before the altar and took an oath that they would take a greater responsibility and take care of all the people of that village and work together to live as one family of God. Everything went on well then and I went back to the Amaravathi Parish. I thought that I should go to the church and thank God for all the favours He had done and I went to the church where I prayed in the beginning and thanked sincerely our Mother Mary for her intercessions and thanked God for all the great things He had done. I was so tired and I wanted to relax for a while, but to my surprise Fr. John Bhasker had come from Vijayawada to see me; I met him there in my office and while we were taking Fr. John told me about Mr. Rick Miller and about his great devotion to Mother Mary and his inspiring mission of building the grottos and spreading the Marian devotion and finally working for world peace. I was so happy to hear from Fr. John about Mr. Rick and I had decided to change the whole village only through Marian devotion. Immediately I contacted Mr. Rick and asked him support for the grotto. He was so generous and immediately responded to my request and sent sufficient money to build a grotto, with his financial support and people’s contribution I started the work to build one Miraculous Calvary in the Village and Mary of our Perpetual Help grotto on the hill which is very close to the village representing the replica of Medugorje.I could see with great amazement that the faith of the people was strengthened because when I told the people that we did not know who Mr. Rick is, we had no idea from where he is from, we had never seen him before, he lived in a far away country, when he asks us to have strong faith in God and spread devotion to our Mary, how much more we can do… and to my surprise, on the inauguration day there were around 4800 people present. After that we’ve had regularly all the spiritual activities specially Charismatic and healing Prayer Conventions, Regular Masses, Daily Rosary. Gradually, we could witness that a great devotion is spreading there day by day. I had worked there for three full years and I had never encountered a single conflict in that village. By the grace of God all are happy and taking lot of initiatives to invite other people also from different parts of the Diocese to spread the Devotion. Since they did not have a church I wanted to build one, there was a barren pit land that belongs to the government. We all worked together and filled it with 2000 trucks of mud, levelled it and prepared a place to build the church; unfortunately at that time I was asked by my superiors to go to Rome so I could not complete the work but now I am working hard to raise the funds to complete the church and some work on the hill. I am sure that Mother Mary will surely make this great event to be happening. Personally when I look back today I strongly believe that it was the inspiration and the constant intercession of our dearest Mother Mary that I could do successfully. I am certain that when our Mother’s presence is there with us we can surely work many wonders and make things happen in reality. As we had witnessed in our lives how our dear mother makes things happen through different generous people like Mr. Rick Miller and build God’s Kingdom here on this earth where love and peace overflows and makes every place a better place to live in; just as Mother Teresa of Calcutta witnessed the tender love from our Mother as she implored: "Mary my dearest Mother give me Your Heart: so beautiful, so pure, so immaculate; Your Heart so full of love and humility that I may be able to receive Jesus in the Bread of Life and love Him as You love Him and serve Him in the distressing guise of the poor."--Blessed Mother Teresa.
